Stewardship Season

We are entering “Stewardship Season,” a time in which churches ask for pledges for the upcoming year. When we put our offerings, our tithes and gifts together, when we pool our generosity – we can do so much more together than any of us can separately.  We can get up to what I call “holy mischief,” partnering with God to love the world a little bit like Jesus does. If you currently routinely give to Telos at Southminster, thank you for your continued support. As we plan for 2021, now is a good time to reflect and pray about your commitment and consider increasing your offering. If you do not yet give regularly, we hope you consider a pledge for 2021. Whether it’s as small as pocket change or as huge as millions of dollars, giving is an act of faith in God’s care for you and in the future of this church. You can make your pledge using this online form.

Cinco de Mayo, Zoom Style – May 5

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with Telos (on Zoom). First things first, here’s the link:  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85053811849 On May 5th, at 7:30 p.m., Katelyn will begin with the cocktail demonstration (first things first, amiright?). Then we’ll have a demonstration of how to make the official Disneyworld/Disneyland churro bites. By 8ish we should be just munching and snacking. If you don’t feel like cooking, no biggie. Heck – grab a pop-tart and a can of cheap beer – the most important part is YOU. It’ll be laid-back, so it’s also a good chance to invite somebody new to check out Telos. So – we need to get the stuff to make the stuff, si? (“si” what I did there?) And we need the recipes, to follow along (or not) at home. Wisdom for Our Times

Dear Ones: During this time of social distancing, we’ll get to try some new things – like this blog. Yesterday it seemed in only a matter of hours to go from “we can still gather if we’re very careful,” to “it’s almost a civic duty to stay at home to protect not just ourselves, but our entire community. Below is what would have been my sermon today. I’m excited to see how this works! We are living in strange times, aren’t we?  I’m guessing that every generation, every era, probably every decade, has a moment when they can say “we’re living in strange times…”  I truly think that between the political divisions among us and the Coronavirus pandemic -and the tornadoes right here in Nashville – these days might qualify as our strange times. Things are intense, y’all!  So if ever there were a time to turn to scripture for wisdom – it’s now. From Proverbs 1: 20-23: 20 Wisdom cries out in the street; in the squares she raises her voice. 21 At the busiest corner she cries out; at the entrance of the city gates she speaks: 22 “How long, O simple ones, will you love being simple? How long will […]
